Which is a bit of a bummer as I was going there next week! For those who don't know it, this is, sorry WAS, an amazing collection of mostly two seaters at Aschaffenburg near Frankfurt.
With some wonderful examples of 30s coachbuilding artistry and post-war sports racers, GTs, prototypes and CanAm cars, it's a great loss. I was there in 2002 (without a camera, sadly) and at the time there were, to name but a few, McLaren M1A, Lola T70, E-Type lightweight coupe, Maserati 151, Lotus 23, Lola Mk 6GT, Porsche 917 (GT & CanAm), McLaren M6A, Maserati Birdcage Tipo 63, McLaren M8F, Lola T222 & T262, Porsche 956, Jaguar XJR-5, etc, etc.
From the (German) press release on their website (www.rosso-bianco.de)it appears the cars are being transferred to a museum in the Netherlands. Maybe somebody could do us a decent translation?

An abstract:
###
Peter Kaus, collector and founder of the museum starts a restructure after trying to keep the museum in Germany for five years.

The biggest and the most expressive (aye!) automobile museum will be created in the Netherlands with his cars and art collection. The cars will be transferred to the Louwman Group, who already runs an important museum.

The art collection and the 180 cars will be shown in the "Nationaal Automobiel Museum" in Raamsdonksveer in Holland, which will,as expected, move to Den Haag within the next two years.
###

I lived in Frankfurt and have visited the collection several times years ago (mostly a father-son exploration ). It is *very* impressive, and has vastly influenced the amount of petrol in my blood. I followed the press in the last years, where Peter Kaus tried to relocate the museum somewhere near Frankfurt, but wouldn't get support from the council, which has mostly regional politics reasons. Frankfurt has a large number of important museums, many of them at the museum-bank of the river Main.

According to an association to preserve industrial culture, Kaus only asked the city of Frankfurt to support him in negotiations about a new venue (not with funds; he already had them), but the weren't helpful at all. Stuttgart several times asked him to move his collection there, but couldn't gurantee quick processing. Kaus apparently auctions larger parts of his collection off since summer 2006. This is, imho, supported by the figure of 180 cars in his press text, and the initial figure of his collection of over 200 cars. WTF, look at the pictures: www.shmoo.com/~bmc/photos/Cars/Rosso%20Bianco%20Museum/

Bodo,
Thanks very much for that. I am visiting friends in Oberursel next week and it was a big disappointment to find the museum had closed.
