Going to have a go at classic car racing, whats the best series to go in to ? I fancy racing a BMW 2002 or BMW CSL or may be even some thing a bit more vintage like Austin 7`s. If I raced the CSL I want to race it in a class that allows modified engines but don't want to have to do any thing to serious. Just looking for some fair priced fun.

As I'm doing an Austin 7 up at the moment, I can vouch for the parts being very cheap. If you go for a vintage make sure it's a pre 1930 and qualifies for the VSCC, it will open up a wider scope of competitions.

Mine's a '29 and I fully intend to race her when she's running.

Check out the CSCC as they seem to have a wide variety of classes (upto '80s cars) and look like they are fairly liberal with the regulations.

M.lovell,

I'm thinking of doing something very similar too. I'm (well, professionals are!) restoring my 2002 at the moment and I'm wondering how far to go modification wise as perhaps a nod towards racing could be interesting.

Let me know if you hear anything and I'll do likewise this end?

I'm doing the Post Historic and Classic Group 1 championships run by the Classic Touring Car Racing Club in my Droop Snoot Firenza next season.

It's very well run and the regulations are pretty sensible, therefore it should be reasonably cheap. There's already a couple of 2002 BMWs in the Classic Group 1, so you should be eligible.

Let me know if you want any further info; all the club commitee/members are really helpful anyway.

Now that is very tempting! I will have a good look through that site shortly.

Dinkel - Thanks for the post and the other thread, I will post something on there too but thanks for the kind words too.

One of the reasons for me buying a droop snoot was Dad showing me videos like that when I was a kid and I've always wanted one, so it's been quite an experience getting one and trying to make it into a race car but I know that nothin I ever do will beat the feeling I get the first time I sit on the grid in it.

I've set up my own website (www.gregormarshall.co.uk) to try and show how easy/difficult it is to get into racing, yes a name helps but you still need the money and knowledge to know what to do and the CTRC have been brilliant with help and advise, so I'd definitely recommend them.

Also, it's still a work in progress, but have a look at Dad's site (www.gerrymarshall.com). My youngest sister and I are still working it, it's quite a bit more snazzy than mine!!
