Does anybody know of a cheap source - I am on a fairly tight budget - for vintage style racing clothing in the UK? Looking in particular for a set of overalls, shoes and a Chapal - or Chapal style - visor for my Davida Classic peaked helmet. New or secondhand considered.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Many thanks.

If you are racing, check the regs as these may not be allowed.

No racing with these. Just posing. Saving every penny for my dream chariot. Only 502 days to go.

From that web site:

"Does my bum look big in this?"

"Umm... I'm afraid it does, dear..."

Top drawer totty. I think I would need to check - very slowly and very thoroughly, that their - rather tight - trousers fitted properly.

Its a tough job but someone has to do it.

Thanks DBSV8,

Shoes. Think you are totally right. Much better value than the Chapal option at £450+ a pop.

Will also look up the earlier thread.

Yes, fantastic car but alas not mine. Its the Racing Green demonstrator. I have paid my building deposit and am putting away every penny until January. No pubs, cinema and getting very bored with pasta.

Worth the wait though. 4.2 with triple 2" SUs on racing pipes. Oh yes, she will be mine.

Just in time for LM 2008. Fancy a race? C against L20?

Excellent. There is a car god after all. Must admit that I thought that I was going to get seriously caned for approved kit. Thanks for the tip. Have to buy you a pint one of these days.

Thank you everybody for all the information contained on both threads. Forgot to say that these gloves which were a present from my girlfriend - who is fantastically relaxed about all my eccentricities - are superb.

From Holdens Vintage Classics in Hereford.

Described by them as:

Les Leston Gloves

Sure grip thin leather palms, reinforced finger tips, net air vent backs and elasticated wrists. Guaranteed washable. These gloves were worn by many famous drivers including Graham Hill, Innes Ireland, John Surtees, Phil Hill, Richie Ginther, Trevor Taylor, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney, Giancarlo Baghetti, Lorenzo Bandini and, of course, Les Leston!

Sizes are small though. The medium size is a tight 8! About £41.00 plus postage and worth every penny.

So the gloves, suit and shoes are now complete. The helmet too. Just need to find that Chapal visor and I will be booted, helmeted and suited.

Maxpart here I come.

Happy motoring and again many thanks everybody
