Ken Tyrell's timber yard was quite famous, but the actual building was a bit better than the surroundings would indicate.
Worked well enough to earn 3 world champioships for JYS, though. The cars were obviously every bit as well made as the opposition, so it proves something.

True. The main building was quite OK as can be seen in the shot. The single storey to the left housed the admin office, Ken's office and the design office to the rear.
Car prep was mainly in the dark pent roofed wooden building on the right (with the Capri parked outside) and next to that was the machine shop and fabrication shop.
To the left of the admin section (can be seen in other shots on the PhotoHistoric web site) was the glassfibre manufacturing unit and paint shop.
Otherwise, apart from a few items relating to the timber haulage business which was still around at the time, just open ground, fields and the occasional pleasant house to be seen.

whats there now? does it still exist, or (as I suepct) its housing?
Green Belt with agricultural connections so I don't think it will have had too much residential development, though there may be some related to the adjacent farm buildings.
Aerial photos on multimap seem to suggest it has grown in the last 30 years but not by much.
Could check Google Earth as well.

Funny enough I used to work for his son or cousin (can't remember now) who lived in the house 20 yards from there. Never realised that's where it all was. It's a farm/storage yard nowadays.
Not so. The newer buildings in the photo have been replaced by a larger high tech building some time ago when Ken was still running the F1 team before selling to BAR. The wooden shed is still there. The rest of the site is a large tarmac'ed space. The building is still in use but not by Ken.
