looks good, but why restore it. It will then be just another restored xk. Keep its charactor please.
No engine fitted and no floor by the look of it, unless there is some aspect of 120's that has passed me by. Early aircon perhaps?
My guess is that the photos may make it appear a little better than it is, but on the other hand I do tend to agree with you about keeping the patina if the option is there.
Well it fetched £30,756!
I have mixed feelings about this; the ad was utterly appalling; terrible layout, grammar and spelling, but still managed to reach the right buyer.
I wonder what it would have fetched in a proper historic auction?
The seller talked about a D Type head with larger carbs. I would be most surprised if this was the case because the D head is much wider than standard and should be fitted with Webers to truly gain benefit.
I don't agree with the business of the OTS being more valuable; it was a dreadful hood frame and ruined the line of the car, the roadster was much more beautiful minus any hood.
The same applies to the 15 inch wires fitted. The car looks much better on steel rims with full spats at the back.
Hope the right people get the restoration job.

Must agree with the awful advert - this grammar, layout and spelling are fine on your Novas and £100-boxes, but not prestigious vehicles like this. That is what gets me with eBay - the sellers sometimes put me off their items with their poor ads.
I dont think the car has much historical significance. Lightfoot was one of the founders of the JDC but I doubt that this increases its value. Anyway a substantial amount will have to be paid out to bring it up to scratch. I certainly do not see the Jaguar Drivers Club buying it since they have there own financial problems & would not have the resources to do so. So in summary - probably a reasonable price although I would have only gone to say 26/28K given the restoration costs involved.

I would agree that the historical significance I think was over emphasised in the ad.
Although I have to admit that history and some of the individuals that make it can be utterly fascinating, as an engineer my estimation of a car's true value is the car itself rather than the history.
There have been some cars that on the face of it were quite mundane and carried very little historical glamour but were outstanding vehicles to own and drive.
Jaguars are the classic example of that.
I owned, serviced and restored numerous E-types but I took delivery of a nearly new XJ12 Series 1 in '71 and was left breathless by the performance.
It was a short wheelbase and was standard other than a set of Konis; it would simply annihilate the E-type, and do it in virtual silence and absolute comfort.
My mate bought an unrestored XK120 DHC a couple of weeks ago.
Very good body, but interior is quite bad. Original disc wheels and spats.
Black with red leather (original colours).
I'll post some pics in september (can't take any decent pics before the 10th of september).
I don't know exactly what he paid, but it sure was a lot less in euros than the Ebay car was in pounds! Bargain I guess?
Full restoration report on my site from next winter.
