Not a name that often comes up these days but I caught these in the paddock at the Top Hat meeting at Donington Park on Sunday last.
The green racer had a wonderful patina giving the impression it had simply been a racing workhorse for all of its life. Awesome 5.8ltr engine which sounded like it only rotated at one speed and handling that made it look like it was being driven on ice! A fantastic sight. I would imagine that in the old days with straw bales at the edge of the circuit the idea of even attempting to clip an apex would be rejected out of hand since it looked like positioning was a matter of luck as much as judgement. It certainly looked like the back of the car wanted to go a lot faster than the front!
Absolutely fantastic sight and sound and I would imagine great fun to drive.

I've got an interesting book on Allards - "Allard" by David Kinsella, Haynes, Feb 1977
It has a picture of the J2X, JM 7942 shown your picture - its an ex-Le Mans car from 1952, it was the reserve car and clocked 148mph.
The program does indeed list it as an "Allard Le Mans".
