How would you go about tracking down a car, that was (but is no longer)
on show at say Beaulieu.

Right
My Grandfather ended his working life restoring vintage cars,

the owner of the cars, who employed him, dropped out of sight years ago,
but I think, he left the cars, in some sort of arrangemnet with Beaulieu,

which, (again I think)
involved the car being lent out to museums,
god knows where.

I haven't contacted BMM yet, as I thought I'd try you lot for advice first

i'm thinking of a letter to 'classic car' with a picture and list of cars as well

any ideas appreciated

I'm thinking, if they are rare classics, may be worth listing them on here, some of them will probably have been sold on by now, normaly through London auction houses, so someone on here may know the owners of one or two, everyone knows someone with an interesting old car, and there are a few dealers in such cars on here.-

i'm still looking through stuff for the few photo's he took
when he'd finished them,
Be better to have included them right off really, but I was wondering what you lot thought first.

they were IIRC

XK120
Alvis
Citroen
and a couple of others

found one pic any way

from memory is this the Jag?

Can't help directly, but I think you may do better if your post was in Yesterdays Hero's. Good luck with the search.

Zaktoo's right, it's a Riley - an RMC roadster.

I'd talk to the museum. I would imagine they would be able to tell you where the car went.

Right Ted might move it for me, so I might do better over there,

That's right Riley,
I vaguely remember now,
also wooden chassis featured on something would it have been that car?

He used to talk about Swallow sidecars, did that become Jaguar or am I confused anybody

Yup, Swallow Sidecars (or SS - hence SS90 & SS100) were renamed shortly after the war (or maybe after war broke out - not sure on the exact timing) for obvious reasons. It became "Jaguar", which later was renamed to "Shaguar" to suit Austin Powers.

Wooden body frame, I'd guess - common practice then.

Yes, often ash frames.

Riley RMC is interesting because it was export-only, and they only made 500 or so.

Great.
Honestly some of the wreckage his boss trawled up,

his business then was resurfacing runways, and he was always poking about old buildings all over the place

buying up abandoned cars that'd been left half in or out of a barn,
often leaving only literally half a car,

from which recreated completely the other half

wish to god I'd picked it up from him,

oh well eh

'The Automobile' magazine are running a feature on tracing classic cars next month. The bigger H.W.Smiths usually stock if you dont subscribe.

Well I've had a read of the article in this months mag
although its more an advert for his book really

think I may have to buy it.

My query with BMM, didn't get a response, which was a bit disappointing
I did expect at least a couple of words of encouragement, still

would there be either a XK enthusiasts or
Riley enthusiasts site type thing
