Get hold of ClassicCars Magazine Feb 06, if you still can. 5 pages about E-Types, including buying guide. S1 3.8 seems to be the pick of the bunch if you can afford it.

Yes and no, the 3.8 prices are too high at the moment, I would recommend an Series 1 4.2, it has the same headlamps, improved gearbox (all 4 gears sync.) I presume you are looking for a RHD?

take a look at this dealer! www.woodmantonclassics.co.uk/showroom.php

I drove a slightly modified S2 two years ago... it had triple Weber carburettors, and sounded like a proper racing car!!!

I remember the E-type feature on Top Gear a few months ago... it was faster round their track than a TT V6 btw does someone know where we can find it on the net?

cheers Yves

Try www.jaglovers.org, They have a very active E type forum.
As to which one, first decide is it to be FHC or OTS.
on a £25K budget, you will have a good selection. I went for S2 because I wanted the better cooling system, brakes seats etc. all these mods can be done to S1 or S1.5 cars.
Most cars are advertised either through the JEC or Jaguar Driver and it is worth joining either one or both. Jaguar Driver has the International E type register , which has an active Yahoo group.
Hope this helps

It depends if you are going for FHC or not - the FHC series 1 3.8s are good value and under 25k even for a tip top one. The moss box takes a bit of getting used to but I do prefer it to series II personally.
I think it is important to consider how mcuh work you want to do yourself when you buy one. The body work is a pain when it needs doing and is very expensive. We restored ours at home and rebuilt the engine etc but didn't want to do the bodywork as we don't have the facilities.

Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe with 4.2 engine, manual box,it's got better brakes than the 3.8, although they can be upgraded, the gearbox is better. When buying, carefully check the body fit with the bonnet and doors etc. New bonnets need trimming to fit the bulkhead area, this is often badly done. The 3.8 engine rev's a bit easier than the 4.2, but the performance is similar. Series 1 1/2 is ok too, but American models have 2x stromberg carbs and are strangled. You need 3xSU's as on uk and European spec. Check for rust and bent front space frame etc. They are a lovely car and still quick by today's standards.
One of the most beautiful cars ever built.
