Rally driver Tony Pond. What a guy.......Is there anything he didn`t do?...
I spotted this recently...100mph lap of the TT circuit...in his 820 vitesse
He used to make me so proud as he seemed to be always campaining a british bulldog!
He ragged it so much while beating the best european missiles on the I.O.M in his SD1 V8 that the power steering fluid boiled!

Is he now the `late` tony pond?....

I`ve got some rare stuff on video but nothing on the net. Any contributions?..

Sadly late (last year I think).

Top bloke. Metro 6R4 in his hands was a weapon. As were most things Rover as your IOM note prove. I mean, an 820 Vitesse! What a heap of shite!!

I`M A BIT OF A CLOSET FAN OF THE 820...

Those were the days...Tony Pond was Britains best rally driver, no question. The only guys in the UK on the same playing field have been our colin and the the late great Richard Burns.

And Colin's Dad was not too incompetent over the years.

Did anyone see the full lap video of the TT circuit in a standard road going 827 Vitesse? that is bloody amazing, averaged over 100mph.

Based on what, comparisons with its main contemporaries like the 2.0 Granada or 2.0 Carlton maybe?

2002 in fact! I had no idea he had died. I remeber reading a story about him once giving a quick ride to two on-duty coppers in a works TR7, which unfortunately ended up upside down in a tree in a field. The coppers then had some explaining to do when they turned up back at the station somewhat battered, bruised and covered in mud!

Thanks for the link. The more I read about the guy the more it saddens me ..
I`ve got some fantastic footage from the mid-late 1980`s on video which I will try and put onto a file for posting..

They were heaps as well

Thank god I wasn't in the market for a saloon then. Or now for that matter.

Now lets see, you could have had a Peugeot 604, a Talbot Tagora, a Datsun Laurel, a Fiat Argenta, a Renault 20, a...er...yeah, they were all bloody awfull

Hang on, the Laurel had a straight six and a double wishbone front end. It didn't become a heap until the front inner wings rusted such that said double wishbone front end was no longer attached to the rest of the car
