Got this this picture from a friend, it shows a Cortina modified by De Tomaso?!

but the engine doesn't look like a twin cam? Is it the same engine as used in the De Tomaso Vallelunga? I have no idea... Who knows this car??

cheers yves

The answer appears to have been written in red biro by a Frenchman: 1.6 litres, c. 130mph. They modified the cam, breathing, increased compression, lowered C of G, big 'T's stamped all over the shop. Very stylee!

Self appointed resident DeTomaso expert time

Truth be told I’m not immediately sure about this one although I have extracted the following information

DeTomaso did genuinely offer this car in their model range albeit there was supposedly only one ever made. The car has unfortunately disappeared off the face of the earth but was offered with two engine options featuring either Webbers or alternatively Tecalemit fuel injection.

I suggest that if this car was found it would be a valuable piece of DeTomaso history

The Vallelunga used a 1700 Kent engine and I’m not sure how this ties up with a Cortina although I suspect reasonably well. What is certain of course is that DeTomaso despite having developed their own engines by this stage had well established connections with Ford with first the Mangusta and then obviously the Pantera, the Cortina project being yet another one

For those who have stayed with me so far, there is an Ultima powered by an experimental Lotus engine which was originally designed and developed by DeTomaso! Work that one out?
