Thought some of you might enjoy a little challenge in these dark autumn evenings.

Here's the first one. An easy starter I think.

Event?
Year?
Location?
Driver?
Chassis?
Engine?

... and of course any other useful information you can provide.

It's the Lotus I remember from my childhood. It's my impression of "the" racing car!

I would have guessed it was (partly because I don't think it's anyone else, IYSWIM!)

1964?

I'll go for:

British GP
1966
Brands Hatch
Jim Clark
Lotus 43
2-litre V8 Coventry Climax

...either that or Colonel Mustard in the dining room with the lead piping !

Very good!

All correct afaik except the chassis designation which I am not sure about in this case. Web research continues!

However I have to say that the Lotus chassis of that era have to be some of the neatest and best looking cars ever to see a race track.

How about this one then.

We have now established the event so just chassis, engine and driver to name.

Excellent!

I have to say the safety aspects at that time look pretty rudimentary. Clark's roll hoop would not be much use but the Cooper version looks more like a head rest!

Now, if you have done the research and found the info about the year and the cars the numbers should tell you all you need to know. So I think it is time for a bit of editing but, in the meantime, how about this one.

Car, entrant and driver? As a clue it is, as far as I know, from a supporting race at the same meeting.

Hmm, no takers for the saloon car challenge then?

Lets get back to open wheels.

Driver, chassis and engine would seem to be about all there is to ask.

I would guess John Whitmore in the Galaxie, and the open-wheeler:

the helmet looks like Chris Amon. No idea what the car is.

Correct.

To be fair the other two parts of the question are probably a bit obscure ... given the evidence available.

If I recall correctly Whitmore was in the race but was mostly to be found driving Lotus Cortina's around that time, though maybe for the same entrant. I would need to check that.

Not Chris Amon according to my note on the back of the print ...

Not a DFV (I think I am right in saying the DFV was not available until 1967) but I can see why you made the connection.

As for the second suggestion - is that your final answer?

Well, it's all gone a bit quiet so ...

The Galaxy was entered by the John Willment organisation who were rather active with Fords large and medium at the time in Saloon car classes.

Driver is Brian Muir - a New Zealander I believe. He finished 6th.

Or at least that is the information I have so if anyone else as other info please let me know.

As for the third of the GP cars - not really that difficult to get 2 parts of the answer so someone must be willing to have a go!

Is it Bruce Mclaren in a car of his own name?

Great pictures by the way. I'd love to see more.
