Brands Well Known For Sponsorship That Have Disappeared

From the '60s onwards, many brands became household names through motorsport sponsorship. A good number of these have disappeared and I thought it might be interesting to stretch the grey matter by seeing how many we can remember.

I will start the ball rolling with a couple:

Andrews Heat for Hire


Alitalia


"Coughmans"


Gentleman's Magazine....

I believe, to get around any locales who were funny about tobacco advertising, it was technically a sponsorship relating to their branded watches.

Rothmans and Marlboro still exist, or am I not getting the definition of disappeared?

Are these brands that have disappeared from motorsport sponsorship or have disappeared altogether?

I read it as the latter, but obviously you can still get Marlboros, Camels in France, and it’s news to me if you can no longer get Jager!

Durex sponsored the Surtees Formula1 team way back in 1976, causing the BBC to pull out.

A few of these miss the point, JPS, Camel and Marlborough are still live brands. As is Gold Leaf, arguably the start of it all. I was just looking for the brands that no longer exist.

One of the most notorious - but you need to be of a certain age to understand the significance of Mr Syd Miller’s (dodgy) contribution to motor sport sponsorship.

National Organs and Southern Organs were companies involved in questionable HP deals on church organs so nothing to do with livers/kidneys etc….

Andrews Heat for Hire is still used by Andrews Sykes Group.
