I'm taking our old Subaru SVX on a run to Belgium and Germany for a week on Saturday, i didn't anticipate an issue getting breakdown cover, its 28 year old and cover is a challenge for cars over 20.

I had a quote for around £130 for the 7 days from the AA, are there any other options worth looking at?

Thanks in advance!

A lot of them now want vehicles under 16 years.

You may need a specialist rather than mainstream: https://www.sterling-insurance.co.uk/breakdown-cov...

Although over £100 sounds a lot, i'm sure we paid £70 a few years back on a car that was 15.

Worth checking your insurance too, I don't have it to hand but i'm sure our classic policy covers UK mainland and the main Europe zones for breakdown.

Probably not helpful at such short notice, but I have European breakdown / recovery as an option on my classic insurance. Can you add it to your policy?

Try Britannia Rescue, they may be able to help.

The RAC do not have a maximum age of vehicle and I have EU cover with them on something much older than yours. It’s certainly worth a try for comparison.

Edited to add that when I obtained mine I found little difference between a couple of weeks cover and a full year. Similarly, adding my daily driver onto the same policy was an insignificant increase so did that too.

That was my thought.

Additionally, the detailed policy information here lists no age based restrictions.

Good to hear. They have always been good since my Dad was involved in setting it up in the 80s.

Might be too late for the OP but a Nationwide Flex plus account gives you the below for £18/ month.

If you breakdown what your probably paying for each of the elements separately it’s pretty good value IMO.

It covers any car and any age car too!!

Worldwide travel insurance cover for your family, for trips up to 31 days
This includes cover for winter sports, travel disruptions and more from Aviva Insurance Limited. You can also upgrade your travel insurance to get the holiday cover you need.

Mobile phone insurance for the whole family
Your phone and those belonging to your partner and dependent children are covered for loss, theft, damage and faults by Assurant.

Vehicle breakdown cover in the UK and the rest of Europe
Includes cover for any eligible vehicle you're travelling in plus any vehicles you own, even if somebody else is driving. Provided by the AA.

Use your card while you're on holiday
There are no Nationwide charges for using your card abroad or in a non-sterling currency.

I've used Chris Knott for my Alfa GTV. They cover the car in the UK and Europe for £85.00 annually. Iv'e not had to use them luckily, so I can't comment on their service.
