On my recent road trip around France I found myself visiting the old Matra factory in Romorantin.

Now a nice little museum, their example of a Murena S really took my fancy.

There are none for sale of course but I wonder if anyone on this forum owns / owned one?

Would love to hear about it if so.

There's one for sale in Essex and, given they're all LHD, you could go further afield. There's at least half a dozen for sale in Europe, as well as a few of the updated Bagheeras.

They handle well enough, but they're not fast and, being Talbots, they're pretty flimsy.

ETA this isn't ownership experience, but spending a little time with a couple of examples in the past.

Are they interesting cars? - Yes.
Have I ever felt the need to own one? - No.

Johnny Frenchman is a curious fellow but has been seriously good at sportscars, when he's awake and paying attention. Albeit he's tended to lack enthusiasm for the RHD market.

Check out the MVS/Venturi Atlantique. (They even built a few, about three, in RHD.)

And then there's always the Renault/Alpine family.

But bear in mind Alpines and Venturis are multiples of the cost of a Matra. smile

I was at a track day in NL in the mid noughties where someone had brought along a Murena fitted with an Alfa V6. Made it sound wonderful, and a little faster!

No idea as to how much work went into making it fit.

Have you got a link for the S that’s for sale in Essex please?
I’ve found a couple of non-s models for sale but other than a lovely looking example that sold in Battle a while back I’ve drawn a blank with the S

Funnily enough I’ve always liked the Atlantique too….. seems I might need help lol

It is, yes. It's not an S (I missed that critical letter in your original post), and it's quite pricey, but it looks like it's in nice condition.

I've always fancied a Matra, and the green one certainly caught my eye because of condition and colour.

I visited the dealer with the green one a few years ago, when I was looking for a Speedster replica, very helpful and friendly

Be interested to hear from any owners on their experiences, good and bad.

Not knowing too much about model specifics, just liked the querkyness of the 3 seats, what differentiates the S?

2.2 litres rather than 1.6, and 115 bhp rather than 90.

It might be worth having a word with TVX Auto 07956 968962 I think he's near York. He's into Matra's and drag races a modified Bagheera

When I sold my GT6 I started looking for a replacement. I missed out on a 2.2 Murena a couple of years ago so was interested in this. But...

... for £15K, however nice it looks, it's still a "second best" 1.6 and it's comfortably into 911 / Cayman money, so it comes down to how highly you value individuality. Also, 35 pics and none of the interior.

For me, this is worth £7-9K max, and once I'm in a position to buy in the new year I'll see if it's still for sale.

If you look on the dealers website there are photos of the interior, been given a modern make over. Seen a couple of Matra's and they have had the originally funky interiors.

You mean it's been retrimmed? I see no "modern makeover".

Looked modern to me, compared to some i've seen before, one looked like a tartan wearing teddy bear had been skinned and used for the door cards, I quite liked it wobble

Fair enough, thanks IAN1967. They weren't there when I looked.

They weren't there when I looked neither. There's only one. So I had to watch the video.

It's had a respray too - the "lambo green" isn't original

Vert Hudson was the green available at the time
