The Italian job

I was watching a bit of this tonight, and a habit of mine is checking registrations in old films ( I lead an exciting life). All 3 of the minis are showing taxed, not motd. I would assume, unless all the reg numbers have been transferred, that they are in a collection somewhere and still used.
Anyone got any knowledge of these?

I think there is some mis reporting going on with that news article. I had a memory that the plates were sold by the DVLA - just did a search for one of them. Sold in 2003...
Eta: just checked, all 3 numbers were sold by the DVLA in 2003. The story of a box of bits containing the logbooks cannot be true.

Yep, as I recall, at the time of filming the reg plates of the three Cooper S's were all fake ones, as they wanted to make out they were new cars at time of filming, when in fact of course being Mk.1's they were all at least 18 months old.Eta: just checked, all 3 numbers were sold by the DVLA in 2003. That's why the reg numbers were released by DVLA in 2003 as they had never been issued back in 1969.
The Miura, the two E-Types, and the Aston DB4 all still exist however, the two Jags and the Aston were on their original issued plates during filming.

They also purchased another 12 Minis in various conditions to throw down the mountains, most were 850's doctored to look like the film cars.
I can recommend this book as a really good source of information on the film: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Self-Preservation-Society...

As others have said, three plates issues by the DVLA in 2003, attached to 3 suitable mini's, turned into nice visual replicas of the film cars.
I remember having a close look around them, when I took this photo of the 3 of them at Goodwood Revival back in 2009.Didn't know why they had those '69' numbers on the bonnets though, as the cars in the film didn't have those.

They are the parade numbers Goodwood put on the cars that yearDidn't know why they had those '69' numbers on the bonnets though, as the cars in the film didn't have those.
