I think this was good value.
Or has the bubble burst?

Bubble burst? Still plenty of these for sale at 70-80k. Clarkson once owning this doesn't really add any value unless you're a very wealthy collector, and wealthy collectors are after the vin of the first one that rolled out of the factory, or the one that rolled and killed Hafsteinn Hauksson.

I don't think Clarkson is the kind of person that adds value to a used card, maybe that's just me.

Also 60k is still absolutely bonkers lol.

He didn't even own it, it was a long term press car loan. (A year according to the auction blurb). I'm not surprised it didn't add any value.

It being a pre-production car is more interesting, in my opinion.

Press cars get totally thrashed.
Same for those Professional Capris. I can only imagine the new buyer has never watched any episodes of them battering the fk out of them and ragging the arse to within an inch of it's life.

Having read of immense queues of excitable fans at Clarkson's farm shop and now his pub, I had assumed anything touched by him would turn to gold . Like Steve McQueen , Clarkson has become the subject of cargo cult adoration . I suspect it's as mystifying to him as it is to me.

The same middle class turnips that used to giggle like braying sheep at his every utterance in the Top Gear Studio .
As you say , completely mystifying .
