BMW 316i compact
Discussion
I was not sure where to post this, classics might not be right?
My FIL passed away earlier this year. He asked his wife to let me have his 1995 BMW 316i compact on his passing. He had it from new, it has done 73k miles and is in good condition (always stored in a garage). It has not had an MOT for two years, but the history is pretty good. It was his pride and joy. It is also 150 miles and a ferry journey away.
I don't actually need or want another car at the moment, especially something like this car. And don't really want to fill my garage with it. (Too many bikes and bits of furniture....)
It has a private number plate, M6AJW.
But she doesn't want to sell it, but needs it moving from the garage as she will shortly be selling the house......
Any ideas to either enthuse me or point me in another direction....
Thanks

May be worth copying across to the 325ti appreciation thread!

If it is clean and in good condition then it's worth acquiring imo. A clean E36 isn't common.
With 6cyl engine swaps so easily done, it could make a really nice project.
I certainly wouldn’t be modifying what sounds like a lovely car. With 6cyl engine swaps so easily done, it could make a really nice project.
If you don’t want it then I would suggest contacting one of the owners clubs to see who could interested.
Alternatively one of the classic auction houses.
Cars like this with such ownership and history are highly desirable and it should fetch a very good price.
Regional group for the BMW Owners club may be worth a try. I went to one of their shows recently and one of the best regarded cars there was an immaculate E30 316 4 door (restored not original). About a lowly as you could buy when new but nice to see that a lot of effort (and cash) had been expended to preserve it
Thanks all.
Maybe I get an MOT for it, get it home, give it a good clean, keep it on a trickle charger, run it occasionally and tuck it away in my garage for another ten years? Might be what FIL wanted too.....
I have since been told that last time it was reversed into the garage he hit the garage entrance with it . Next time I am there I will see what it is like and take some shots. In fact my wife is there now......
