Almost finished, still needs a few more bits. Wiring, fuel tanks, pedal box etc but we'll on the way.

This was thought to be the oldest known Mk1 Transit. A white pre production van has now taken that honour.

Great pics, thanks for posting.

I have Fond memories of our ex Boreham service barge TEV 802 or 3 R that we owned in the mid 80's. 5 Recaro seats, 3.1 Essex V6 with forged pistons, overdrive on 3rd and 4th, would cruise all day at 70 fully loaded with trailer, rally car, wheels tyres, jerry cans loads of spares etc, total weight 5.3t !

Still the fastest "Van" i have driven, when empty and not towing wink
Towing, it used to do around 13mpg, the overdrive was just perfect for hills etc.

Sadly the dreaded tin worm got the better of it towards the end of that decade. This is the only decent pic i have of it, taken in 1985, brands hatch, trying to get DKP to show some boost, buts that's another story!

What an excellent vehicle! Deserves its own 'Day' for sure.

Mine is for towing my Triumph race car, so it's a TRansit.

I had one Transit, I think it must have been an early 80s, twin wheel. Loved that van and wasn't even a tradesman!
My dad had a 70s tipper, he bought from the auction and it was freshly sprayed red. The nghbours must have thought we were the traveler type.

I saw the XJ220 Transit at TWR in Bridlington up close. The guy told me it was used for testing, like a mule. They also had two XJ220 parked up, and loads of Aston Martin engines on hoists being built.

I've seen the Triplex transit out and about and it looked amazing compared to all the normal cars in the tesco car park!

There's a much repeated myth that Supervan is a Transit on a GT40 chassis. A GT40 chassis is a steel panelled monocoque incorporating the roof or in the case of a GT40 roadster, the rear bulkhead. The wheelbase would be too small also. Not really suitable.
Supervan rides on a much modified Cooper Monaco tubular chassis. Elements of GT40 can be seen in the gearbox cross member and of course the small block V8 with ZF transaxle are as per GT40 Mk1.

GT40 'chassis' below, doesn't exactly cry out 'slide me under a Transit van' !
