An account I follow on Instagram, can't identify the red car partially obscured by the bushes. It's big, judging by the Anglia and A40. Could it be a Mustang? Rare at the time if so.

But note how few cars there are in sight, expect that today the road would be lined both sides with parked cars!

I think you're probably right, Dapster, but I'm not 100% convinced. If only Dad would trim that bloody hedge...

Mustang was my initial reaction on first glance, but the more I look, the less convinced I am.

The side glass appears to have a centre "post", too far forward for a Mustang or any coupe I can think of, which suggests a four door, unless it is some sort of optical illusion.

What look like the reflector and badge on the front wing aren't in the right positions for a Mustang either, locations look perhaps more like this in relation to the arch and beltline?

Struggling to find something that fits better overall though...

Yep, it was that indicator repeater on the front wing that made me think of a Maserati 350 GT. Must admit roofline seems a bit too long though. I think that the B post that you are looking at is an optical illusion and is infact a chrome spoke on the steering wheel.

Maserati in a quiet English village, unusual and exotic I know…

Thinking about it - a 65/66 Mustang would have a "289" logo on the front fender - but on the red car it looks more like an indicator repeater or US spec running light.

I still think Mustang, but was also thrown by the 'chrome' B pillar. However, I can see that might be the steering wheel spoke.

Obviously no side repeater requirement on that age of car, so might be a side position marker or badge.

Only if it was a V8 - sixes were available.

65/66 Mustangs have the V8 callout badge there. 67's have nothing at the front of the wing, 68's have a marker light but it is lower than the light coloured smudge in the photo.

My decrepit eyes interpret that as a flower on the bushes, not a light or a badge.....

That rear glass / roofline has me coming back to this, especially with the centre "post" idea discounted. Could the rear window be that shallow?

Potentially so many distinctive design features and all hidden by the hedge!

Equally unlikely to be in a small British town as the Maserati I would suspect...

The boot lid is huge. Could it be a c.1963 Ford Galaxie 500 ?

I was having a long, hard look at this earlier: 1964 Pontiac GTO

As likely / unlikely to be parked on a British street as a Mustang, particularly if said street was somewhere near a US air base.
