Interesting, I saw a smaller version the other day in a London side street, it was baged up as a 2000 of sorts, but it looked just like a baby 3.0CSL and it definately wasnt a 2002 derivative.

Anyone know what it may have been? it was silver, early seventies BMW, automatic, small 2 dr coupe, very spacious inside. Lots of fake wood veneer inside and plastic chrome.

The E9 Coupe came in 2500, 2800, and 3000, normally badged CSi (IIRC)
The CSL was the lightweight model for racing homologation. Aluminium opening panels, no front bumper etc. The last version of the CSL was the 'Batmobile' with huge rear wing.

And I want one so bad it hurts.

you must have a ride over to my neck of the woods and have a blast in my E9 CSL. You would need to be min age of 25, no more than 3 points on your licence and have around £35 for a days fully comp insureance.

Its not the fastest car in the world but I rate it as one of the most fun cars... when the engine hits 3500 rpm it makes one of the best exhaust and engine noises in the world. Pitty the days when you could pic them up £5k are gone. I think they will head of into the values of `72 911 RSL`s, wish I had keep my old jct 6000 car, i sold it to by a house and still miss it greatly.

I LOVE CSLs, very under rated and at one time I was thinking of getting one.
Unfortunately a move may be on the cards -which will mean a serious rationalisation of the "fleet"....

Warren, what you saw was probably a VERY VERY rare 2000 CS, bascially with a carburetered 4 cylinder M10 engine ( from the 2002) in a similar shell to the later E9 body but with a strange looking almost "flush" front, with out so much "grill" as later became "trademark" on the shark nosed Bimmers....

The 2000CS is indeed a beautiful car, compare that to some of the hideous offerings from Munich today!

And in the very best Blue Peter traditions here’s one I cooked earlier. Well not exactly cooked as its for sale and looks like a pretty damn clean one as well

www.myclassiccar.co.uk/

I haven’t contacted them for a price as I’m fairly well up to my ears in wafty 70’s exotics presently but this seems to me to be a readily serviceable and very attractive little classic for somebody.

Lovely looking car
