Anyone else see this announcement of Moss and Rimmers effectively merging?

This will basically have a large slice of the UK marques parts supply sewn up, especially as The Roadster Factory in the US recently closed due to a fire.

I am sure it will be quite a positive for the classic car parts industry, but will it mean the end of the smaller suppliers?

One thing I'd like to see is the quality improved upon or maybe a two tier product line, premium that is top notch for fit and function on quality restorations and the regular stuff they put out now.

Hopefully they can invest in the rarer NLA stuff too.

Thoughts?

If it means that Rimmers stop charging ridiculous amounts for postage then it'll be a good thing.

My domestic staff tell me that a first class stamp for a letter now costs £1.35, so a parcel will clearly cost a lot more!

Bit of a difficult one is this merger. Unfortunately they both get the majority of their ‘stuff’ from the same suppliers, so in theory the prices would be the same. One problem with classic car spares is people with a 40-50 year old car expect 40-50 year old prices. A couple of examples Triumph TR bonnet catches, from the far east and may as well be made of butter. Windscreen washer pump more cheap crap. I for one would rather pay three or four times the current price for something made in this country out of quality materials.
As for postage costs, at least I can get to Moss within half an hour or so!

I would have thought that together, being in control of a bigger slice of the Market, that they will initially be able to undercut other suppliers until they disappear, and then raise their prices accordingly....

I try not to use either, always the specialists for me, but as said it will get harder when these two take hold. Some stuff they sell come from the far east or spurious suppliers.
