Hi
I’m looking for any info on a 3 litre engine dropped in a mk II 240 without any mods in 1984.
Anybody got any idea what engine that’d be???!!!

Sure it's not the Ford based V6 durotec from a more recent S Type?

They came in 2.5 and 3ltr flavours.....

Not if it was fitted in 1984 as the OP said smile

OP - it is a straight 6, or something else? A photo would make it much easier to identify.

Indeed.

OP needs to give a lot more details or a photo to even begin to determine.

However, if 1984 is accurate, I think you'd be narrowing it down to the Ford Essex V6 a BMW S6, an Alfa V6, Merc S6 or a Volvo six maybe?

I would think for that era, a Essex V6 transplant would be most likely, although it wouldn't be any real gain over a 2.4 XK unit, and a lot of hassle.

Could be the Austin 3ltr straight 6 boat anchor..... Depends if it was put in to boost performance (in which case ignore this suggestion), or just whatever was available cheaply to replace a broken engine.

The thinh is it dropped straight in with no mods. Is that possible with the austin or ford 3 litre?

I doubt any non-Jag engine would drop in without any mods, engine mounts at very least would like mean some sort of work required...and then there's the issue of hooking it up to whatever gearbox is in it, either Jag MOD or the BW auto...or some other gearbox associated with what ever the engine is.
A straight six for a straight six would likely be the least problem.

A photo would be so much easier wink

IIRC, some MK2s have been fitted with XJ6 engines, but I don't think even they are simply 'drop-in ', issues re clearance etc.. The closest and most likely 3-litre would be a Series 1 XJ6 2.8.

I can't see anything else be anything like a 'drop- in'.
