Epic day yesterday , thought id share a few photos ,

I had the Capri out , in preparation for either selling or renovation when I received a call from a friend , who was in the area and wanted to pop in for a coffee , normally when he's popped in before its in the family hack. .........

.However he is the owner of a very special car I've been pestering him for 3 year's to bring her over.

I was alerted to a deep rumble then the whistle of a turbo as this green projectile spitting gravel shot up our drive. Thankfully the uprated brakes work and She came to a stop , engine resonating like a mythical beast . What an elegant gentlemanly car ,that on first glance looks standard , but look more closely and you can see subtle differences , revised front air dam , she sits on larger bespoke hand made 18" wheels. It has to . To accommodate the huge disk brakes and enormous callipers that are a work of art.

this is the video from when he bought the car 8 years ago

Aston Martin 7.0 Lynx LE

The back story is almost as interesting as the car , the previous owner was Tetra Pak heir Hans Kristian Rausing , who in 1994 , walked into a London Aston dealership and chose a 6.0 Virage LE. A rare car in its day limited edition coupe, chassis number 50413 a the time the car would have been producing around 350 bhp , However Hans gave instruction he wanted to double the power output !.....but leave the car looking standard .

Not an easy task , The car was taken to Britain Brodie racing where an RS Williams 7.0 litre engine was fitted increasing the engine capacity ... but that wasn't enough , dissatisfied Hans took the car to Lynx engineering ,,,,,,,,with an Open Cheque book .

The project took 2 years where detailed engineering drawings were produced , using top grade bespoke components , titanium , for exhaust manifolds and fitting the largest turbocharger available, She was the first Aston Martin to be fitted with a turbo charger , way before Aston had conceptions of Mercedes derived V8 turbos of today, This was back around 1995 !! the suspension, 4 speed automatic transmission and brakes were also uprated. Ultimately once finished at an eye watering cost ......... in excess of £500,000

Producing over 750 BHP and 1000 ft lbs of torque !!

By all accounts Hans was not happy when he saw the finished car raging at the size of the wheels and hence it got very little use until eventually finding its way into Aston specialist Nicholas Mee's , hands , Pat looking to trade in his DB7 GT ...........jumped at the chance

However In Pats Ownership ...........To maintain the car , she's had several upgrades , including a larger Turbo charger , that cost ...well better not talk about Cost ..Pats doesn't have Hans' deep pockets a mad car enthusiast yes , but how do you maintain a car where practically every component is bespoke ?.

The Net result is simply eye watering. Now producing over 800 BHP with around 1200 ft lbs of torque ......... crazy figures ... but not as crazy as the 140 litre petrol tank , always filled with Esso premium ... you need deep pockets to fill the tank , think 250+ miles on a full tank !!

So after a few coffees , was time to go out for a blast , , after warming up the oil , ( he's running in the new diff ) we drove out of the drive , my neighbours are used to my own cars modified 3 litre Capri , Aston DBS , E type ... but there were definitely curtain twitches responding to the deep resonating sound .

So we set off on the Hampshire / Dorset border down t off across the A31 , with light traffic , joining the slip road , he just dabbed the throttle ..... Almost instant power , there was a deep baritone rumble and then a Whoosh or whistle of the turbo and the car was catapulted forward , this makes a noise like no other Aston I've ever sat in. A V8 on steroids , but its not just about the engine , everything is different , the suspension , glues you to the road , it has so much power you have to take care not to hit the red line waiting for the diff to catch up , you a swaved in the finest Connolly leather , a special mention to the head rest ... seriously super soft , I mean when your propelled forward under power your head is cocooned in soft leather ... like a very soft pair of Italian Shoes .
Short bursts along country lanes , the crest of a hill and then it opens up , the turbo fires up and that unmistakable whistle , and the countryside is blurring to meet us as we catch up with the car in front , a dab on the brakes and she slows , very impressive stopping power , these are not carbon ceramic , but no hint of squeal just instant braking stopping in a straight line .
This is a very very special car ............possibly contender for most exotic Sleeper , "A brute in a suit"

well what a fantastic experience , it has to go down on the bucket list as entertaining ,

This would be a fantastic car to feature on the late brake show if Jonny Smith is watching

Magnificent. With enough road, it must be thoroughly entertaining. Credit to the current owner for taking on such an extravagant curio.

What a beast - it must sound awesome!

Judging by the J gate, I assume the gearbox is from a Jaguar?

A few mistakes in the write up but thanks DB. Gearbox is a heavily modified GM4L80E. Modified by Richard Alders.

Fantastic spot!! Well, visitor. A unique car with a great story. Thanks for posting.

Oh, and please take this as a compliment: there was an earlier turbocharged V8: The bulldog. And the le mans entrant from 1977.

That's very exclusive company to keep!!!
