At 40 years old, a car can be registered as Historic, and thus avoid LEZ/ULEZ..

I'm sure this has been asked before, but... What would be your weapon of choice for dodging the congestion charge!?

This is 6.6 litres of V8 Ultra Low Emission Zone compliance..

[Not my car - but a lovely example]

Perhaps there's something a little more daily-able?

I have a 2005 supercharged 4.2 V8 Range Rover and my wife has a 2009 Ford Focus ST with the 2.5l, 5 cylinder turbocharged engine.

Both are ULEZ compliant!

All petrol cars post 2006 are Euro 6 so compliant. So that explains the Focus ST. Remember, ULEZ is nothing to do with CO2 emissions, but just local air quality. A euro 6 engine in a Dodge Viper or Lambo will put out far less Nox and other harmful stuff than a Euro 4 2004 1.2 hatchback. The RR 4.2 V8 must've been Euro 6 in advance of it being compulsory. Lots of cars were.

Only the diesels have to be Euro 6, petrol vehicles can be Euro 4 upwards I believe. This is why my XK 4.2 is also compliant, despite only being Euro 4.

London ULEZ standard is Euro 4 for petrol, Euro 6 for diesel. Most petrol stuff post 2004ish is of E4 standard, hence why some cars which it seems daft are compliant, are. Petrol NOx and particulate emissions are much lower than their equivalent diesel.

Euro 6 standards weren’t mandatory for new cars until 2014.

Some petrol cars which are E3 meet the E4 thresholds, so presenting the Certificate of Conformity will get them exempted. One that springs to mind is the S2 K-Series Lotus Elise.

So's my V6 Exige.
My 2011 320d/ED isn't, though.

Farcical system.

I'm not sure it is. It's supposed to improve air quality and Nox emissions are much more harmful than CO2.

The farcical bit is allowing people with non-compliant cars to just pay to enter. I'm sure I read about some cities (Edinburgh springs to mind) fining non-complaint car drivers which makes more sense.

Anyway my 2006 BMW Z4M is compliant - even if it's in Band M for Road Tax. frown

Why is it farcical? The V6 Exige will pump out far less crap like Nox and other air polluting stuff than your 13 y/o 320d. That's exactly what ULEZ is for.

My 1982 BMW 635CSi, compliant on age...

...to be joined in the old age compliance category by my 1985 M635CSi in two years time...

My 2001 (is that an old smoker?) 4.6 litre Alpina B10 V8 Touring which is Euro 4 and ULEZ compliant after I purchased a CoC from Alpina...

...and to my huge surprise I also received a CoC for my 1997 5.7 litre Alpina B12 5.7 which not only meets Euro 4 but also Euro 6 standards on NoX to TfL have exempted it too...

I fully agree. If it's about 'health as Khan insists, why not just ban them and fine for incursions like in Scotland? But no, if you're wealthy enough, churn out that NoX baby, to give more funds for TfL. rolleyes

I had a 5.7 litre V8 Vauxhall Monaro VXR (2004 model) for 6 months and that was Euro 4 , surprisingly!

If you look at the emissions on the exige they aren't much better than on the BMW.

So strangely, my 2004 Volvo V70 D5 Manual Euro 3 is ULEZ compliant, despite having no DPF. Not sure what the logic is behind this, it surely can't be meeting the Euro 6 standards?

My Amazon, used virtually daily for the best part of the past two years. Living in East London which was ULEZ before the the expansion.

Here it is getting a clean the other day before heading off to France for a few days. smile

But they are better. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. We don't let 16 y/olds drive because it's not much different to 17.

Bit of a false equivalence there, but have your thoughts.
