Beautiful Americana feel to this VX4/90 . I lived next door to a bloke back in Glasgow who owned the earlier FD Version and looking back I think Vauxhall did a better job with the coke bottle shape than Ford did with the Cortina . To my young eyes they just looked a bit flashier and more of a "bird puller" with that extra chrome . Incredibly cheap money for the later car above and much has clearly been spent bringing her to this condition . Much nicer without those awful mirrors and just a nice chrome one on the drivers door but a lovely looking thing nonetheless .

That's nice, but those mirrors...

A pity about the rear bumper too...

It's a nice looking car, but my teeth itch because the indicator units are on the wrong way around - the sidelight should be on the outer side, but that's a common mistake to make and very easily rectified.

I particularly like the expanse of the glasswork and the great visibility with those thin pillars which they were noted for back then . I think its fair to say that the design still looks quite fresh especially when viewed against the later Carltons

Shame its a slushbox.......(although that in itself must have been rare for a VX4/90 back in period)

We used to live near Ellesmere Port and my mate's father was a foreman there so he had a brand new 1974 bright yellow VX4/90 FE and took us boys in it, up to beyond the magic "ton". Looked great with its rostyles.

When he changed it, the following year, it was for another VX4/90 but this time in dark metallic blue and it may have had a vinyl roof. regardless, it didn't look as good as the yellow!

My dad turned up with something very much like that sometime in the late '70s. It had a vinyl roof and a boot rack and looked amazing to an 11 or so year old. I was gutted when he gave the boot rack to our next door neighbour the same day!

I always thought they looked good too, and the bonus now is Vauxhalls tend to be cheaper than Fords!

For me the FD is a much better looking car, I never really liked this version.

Not the bigger VX, but my 15yo self always wanted a Firenza coupe that was made up to look like a mini Mad Max car.

I was totally deflated when I priced up the cost of parts in the back of custom car magazine and realised my Saturday job only just covered my weekly Go Karting addiction.

More in proportion to the Mk3 Cortina than the later FE but to be fair I believe the FE wasn't that much bigger though it looked it .
