Ford Escort Eliminator
Discussion

This old thread discusses the Escort Eliminator and questions whether it was an AVO car, with no firm conclusion.
The Eliminator was built by Crayford with a 3-litre Zodiac engine in a modified Sport shell, engine moved rearwards requiring an altered bulkhead, 175-13 tyres. 0-60mph under 8.0secs, 114mph top speed. It retained the Ford warranty and, of course, might well have been tested by Ford. Tested by Motor, May 1969.

It must have been built by Crayford for a particular dealer or customer, rather than being built by Crayford as a company demonstrator etc., as LW is a North-West London registration, so was supplied by a North-West London Ford dealer. This old thread discusses the Escort Eliminator and questions whether it was an AVO car, with no firm conclusion.

Crayford were based in Westerham in Kent, so would have got a local dealer supplied car if doing it for themselves or as a Crayford supplied new car.
And it would have been a modified 1300GT shell, not a Sport shell, as the Sport didn't exist as a model in 68/69.
Off topic, but Crayford were the first owners of my 1975 Mk2 Escort.
It apparently spent some of its time in Spain, and at one time had air conditioning fitted (removed before my ownership).
Mind you, it didn't look like the above picture in their ownership either. I'm to thank for the Mexico spoilers, KN wheels, Recaro drivers seat, quarter bumpers and lights.

A lhd GT based Eliminator with an 'interesting' paint job.
There was a trend to make cars look different, SuperSpeed also did some visual changes that would divide opinions.
Wowsers that's err, bold There was a trend to make cars look different, SuperSpeed also did some visual changes that would divide opinions.
Nice magnessium Minilites though, and 6" as well, looking at the modified arches with small flares.

Has anyone found any pictures or further details on the fuel Injected Eliminator Clubman Racer version ?
The mention of fuel injection caught my eye as well.I wonder what system they used......Lucas mechanical I would assume?
Or maybe TJ......as these were the only two systems around in UK at the time from memory.
They did a lot of work on the underbonnet systems and ancillaries by the look of it, as well as the bulkhead mods.

Blimy indeed, that's an acquired taste! There was a trend to make cars look different, SuperSpeed also did some visual changes that would divide opinions.
Looks like a well done mod, not something that did, or would today interest me due to the weight of the engine, never the less, impressive performance figures in its day
Thanks again S M for the mag referral, your library must be substantial
