In a variation of the numbers game , are others as afflicted as I am in translating time into car ? We have two radios with prominent LED time displays , one in bedroom and the other in the kitchen. And I simply cannot help seeing the car reference in the time of day, especially in the early hours - I'm a light sleeper.

Yesterday I woke at Ferrari 458 am and the other day it was 1558 am (cc of Lotus twin cam of course) .

So my mind works like this - early hours 12 - 1 - Elite Coventry Climax engine capacity - 1220

1-2 - Alfa 105 GTV , Peugeot 106, Fiat 130

2-3 lots more Peugeots , BMWs galore , Cobra 289, Tiger 260, Ferrari 212 Inter

3-4 Cubic inches feature again - 302, 327 . Ferrari 312s too

4-5 It's a Bristol fest till 412 , and a later 450 too and a full house with 603

6-7 It must be Tatra time at 603 and 613

And it's time to get up . Anyone similarly afflicted ?

I feel your pain, coppice: I often do the same, and can recall the early Peugeot 309 TV advert where the guy wakes up at 3:09 and takes his shiny new car for a drive.

Watch it here

One question, though: how does 289 work? Or 260?

Others to consider:

930 - smallest engine available in a Chrysler Sunbeam
803 - Morris Minor sidevalve (and others)
722 - Moss / Jenks, obviously
848 - early A-series cc
427 - 7-litre Cobra
AC 428
Maserati 222 / 228 / 230
Mercedes 220 / 230 / 240 / 250
Ferrari 250 GT / GTO etc
Any number of small Fiats & Peugeots
954 / 1124 - small Peugeot / Citroen engines (XU & TU types)

Neither 289 nor 260 works - I blame my lack of sleep . But I will also raise you a 427, 428 and a 454 .

I already said 427 & 428 wink

But we could also have 318, 327, 455 etc.

I'll bag the few minutes before 10am as my favourites though:

Not related to Ferrari’s or even cars, but I often get up at 8:08, so leads me to think of the Roland TR-808 drum machine

Whenever I glance at my clock and it says '8.08' my brain says 'State'

My eldest was born at 9:17am, the youngest didn't coincide with any cars so I can only say the evening!

10.00 is our usual time for a morning cuppa if me and the Mrs are both in, it always makes me think of this...

It continues. Woke at Peugeot o'clock (504 , coupe I hope ) and reminded myself of the apparently curious capacity of the Ford RS 1600 I'd missed 63 minute earlier - 1601 cc . To enable homologation up to 1800 or 2litres I think?

Then reflected on possibly similar explanation for Fiat 125's 1608cc and then wondering what the 1438cc of the 124 Coupe was about .

Why do I remember stuff from 70s Autocars and CAR ?

I need to get out more.

What time is 1558 am? Or did it just feel like morning when you awoke from your afternoon nap?

Fiat made 1,438cc and 1,608cc twin-cams for 124s and 125s, then fitted a 1,756cc in the last generation of Coupes and early 132s that also got a 1,592cc engine (which went in the 131 Supermirafiori as well) in place of the 1,608. Eventually there was a 1,995cc in the 131 Sport and 132/Argenta.

I think maybe I need to get out more too!

I keep looking at clocks at 17:47 which also happens to be the engine capacity of the Fiat Punto HGT I had in the early 2000s.

It genuinely happens about 4 times a week.
