A Right of Passage for many of us back in the day , I can well remember the urge to get into something a bit quicker . Incredible to think that at todays prices at Anglia Auctions three of these could translate into an RS2000 , now your talking biglaughbiglaugh

That's mental money!

I deliberately bought a KTM Comet Cross because it was different and only had it for the one year I couldn't have anything other than a moped. I'd never want another one though.

The Puch Grand Prix was much better than the FS1E, and while the Suzuki AP50 may have been late to the party it was way faster.

But I wouldn't want to go further than the local shop on any of them so the prices seem about as crazy as RS2000s for over £20K - mine was good in the 80s but would feel gutless and agricultural now.

Although I do still have a soft spot for RD Yamahas!

Had an RD250 and an RD400 which reqlly flew for its time. The 250 had a 'Stan Stephens' tuning kit and I rode it legally with one of those 'tea tray' sidewinders!

Do you mean it seems a lot for a high-mileage one? Or something else?

I think like a lot of 70/80/90 stuff they have a big following and they’re going up like the Mk1 did?

I’m more surprised that people constantly get surprised about 20/30k hot hatches from yesteryear

Look how much other stuff goes for

As ever, cheaper examples/hot hatches are available from that era

Sidewinders! Hard to believe they were actually legal :0

I remember seeing someone with a sidewinder on an FZR - I remember thinking that if you were good enough to ride the FZR then you may as well take the test but I think there may have been an age restriction / loophole?

I owned such back in the day, tuned myself and could reach 95km/h fast thing at the time, also got a big accident with that one, not my fault but I couldfly after the hit and landed with my head (lucky full helmet on) on sharp a curb, my helmet cracked and so did my skull... then after 3 days and nights I woke up after a Coma, was a good sleep... so yes, life became different after that.

But... once at home, I was ordered to do nothing... but pfff that moped with broken front had to be repaired hehe and I thought it was all overrated brain damage... ok lesson learned lol.

anyhow, my mopeds were fun and freedom, so no one could stop me... until cars came hehe

sadly I have no pictures of that Yamaha FS1 pictures were rare back then, but... my Dad made a picture of my first Moped as a 16 year old (crossed mopeds before that)

a Fantic and back then I was little, 1,60 mtr max or so when I was 18 I was 1,67 and 2 years later luckily 1,81 mtr when I went into the army.
anyhow, here 16 years and little (cops asked me are you really 16 many times...) on my first road legal moped, good old times.

Yes, high mileage, hadn't realised the Mark 2 was that popular. Yes it looks neat with it's new paint etc but no real Motorsport history a far as I know. Maybe I've been asleep for acouple of decades or more.

I loved my RD Yamahas, had an RD250D, RD400C, RD350A, RD250LC and another RD400LC.

But my KH was a 500 with Allspeed spannies and it was the best bike I've had!

Well, yes the mileage did seem high ….. but maybe it’s someone’s old car. I know a friend who paid probably way over the odds for a Mk2 RS2000 as it had been his own car back in the 80s. An other friend laughed at him as he’d bought one in the same nick for 2/3 the cost

As for the Motorsport history….. Kenneth Eriksson might disagree with you on this particular marque/model!

KH500......What a machine . Kawasaki always had a bit of mystique about them in comparison to say Honda or even Suzuki , they weren't that common in Seventies Glasgow . I literally could go months without seeing another KH250 .
