Import question regarding incorrect VIN on paperwork?
Discussion
Hi all,
I am trying to assist a friend with sorting out the import paperwork for a classic mini that he purchased in the US and is now in the UK.
The car was sold new in Australia, was then imported to the USA many years ago and my friend purchased it in the USA and brought it to the UK.
The problem is that the American registration document has the VIN recorded incorrectly, they have actually put the engine number down as the vin number on the paperwork. As a result all the import paperwork has the incorrect vin listed.
Does anyone have prior experience with an issue like this and can give any advice on how to approach DVLA? Should we send of the import paperwork, filled out with the correct vin, as normal with a covering letter and the UK MOT (showing the correct VIN)?
The car now has a UK MOT which records the correct VIN.
Sadly none of the Australian paperwork was provided with the car, so all he has is the American registration document.
Thanks

Contact the DVLA , explain the error and they may send an inspector to verify the numbers; that's what they did with a VIN error on my Riley when a 'S' had been recorded as a '5'.
Thanka for the reply, I've told him to get on the phone to the DVLA on monday and hopefully get somewhere.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
