Up till now ESSO E5 has been 0% ethanol for most of the UK mainland.

But this is about to end, and will go to 5% ethanol this month.

Can anyone recommend any other ethanol free suppliers at sensible prices.

Fuzz Townsend's stuff from Motor Spirit / Classic Oils at Bicester is over £4 per litre !

Don’t assume it has ethanol in it - there’s videos on how to test it yourself as well as at least two threads on ph on the subject

Not necessarily 5% ethanol. UPTO 5% ethanol. Guess we won’t know until someone tests some and confirms how much exactly. Whether this will change from batch to batch or refinery to refinery is anyone’s guess.

My mate knows someone who volunteers at Brooklands. There were rumours Tesco were getting their fuel from Esso so they tested a sample of Momentum 99RON and sure enough there was no ethanol - which is handy as Momentum is way cheaper!

Means up to 5% Ethanol...

It will vary on batch blends, seasons, refinery/depot.....

But, will now also have 5% ethanol now if from same source.

Interesting in the other post about Shell SUL being only 2%.

I'm sure legislation will push all the SUL towards a real 5% in time, and likely even 10% by decades end.

Edit:
Video says Esso was 2%, BP was 3% and Shell was highest at 6%.

Pretty sure Esso was the last generally available, other than the very expensive specialist stuff.

Yes, it's a shame for anyone with a classic. Luckily my cars will be OK with 5%, I only use it because it's 99 RON and BMW recommend at least 98 RON whenever possible.

I find it hard to get 100% positive advice on using E5 or E10 in old cars.
I have a 1997 Mercedes SL320 R129 with the straight six 24v engine. Its just a summer fun car and does very low mileage. My wife has a lovely old low mileage 1999 Peugeot 406 2.0 16v and does about 1000 miles a year. We both use Texaco super E5.
Any comments guys? would they both run OK on E10.
