Jaguar XK140 FHC diff cover holes
Discussion
A mate of mine is assembling a Jaguar XK140 fixed-head that he bought in dismantled condition, with some bits put back on it. As he's working on the interior and floor, he mentioned that he has three holes in this panel that sits under the rear seat, which I believe is known as the diff cover, and he doesn't know what they are for. They're only on the one side of the car - the nearside - and there doesn't seem to be anything underneath that they might be used for.
He's had a look through the various parts catalogues that he has, I've tried doing a search for restoration photos online but struggling to find any information. Can anyone help? I did find a reference to a heat shield that seemed to be roughly the size of the larger hole, but not sure what it would be shielding. He isn't online, so I'm asking (again, I asked before about sumps and got some helpful advice on here) on his behalf.

For questions of this sort of detail on a classic XK he's probably better off asking on the XK forum of Jag Lovers. If anyone knows then denizens of that little corner of the Internet will. I'll try and take a look in "Original Jaguar XK: The Restorer's Guide" by Philip Porter later on and see if I can see anything there, if he's looking for a copy of this, assuming he doesn't have it already, then he wants to make sure he gets the later version which has a lot more details.
Sorry, I've had a quick scan on the book and can't see anything relevant.
