I have a MRS imported from Japan, use it during summer, I usually do about 1500 miles a year in it, last year it covered 800.

Has it insured through Lancaster for years, cheapest premium was the first year when I had no no claims discount, cost was £119, two years ago iy was £179, last year I paid £149 including key cover and this year just got my docs through, £379!!!

If it was a UK MR2 Coop would insure it for £222.

So curious, if any of you havve cars of similar age you insure as classic, how much is your insurance?

What age is it?

I have a 1985 TVR wedge which I have just insured through Classic line at £194. Policy is for me and 1 named driver, mileage is unlimited (I usually do around 3k miles) and covers me for club run track days too.

Conversations such as this are pointless as there are so many variables when calculating premiums.
Make and model of car
Age and condition
Anticipated mileage
Intended use of vehicle
Type of cover required
Age of owner
Occupation of owner
Driving history of owner
Where you live
Where car is kept
Who else drives it
etc.

OP suggest you shop around. Try Hagerty, A-plan Thatcham and other classic car insurance Co's + it's common for the marque clubs to have discounted insurance policies readily available at discounted rates.

Also try

My insurance has gone up a whopping 24% this year. frown

Last year was almost as bad at 21% increase, but nothing like the OP's 39%.

Our 1982 van costs £112 per annum for 3000 miles fully comp. We have owned it for 11 years and the price has not changed much in that time (+/-£10). The first year was more expensive though....

Now with historic tax, it makes running it far more easy on the pocket, except the 17mpg locally.

Car Insurance increasing in price is going to be the norm - I am afraid - and it is all down to EV's and new vehicle gadgets and safety features!

15% of the new car market is now an EV and they are very expensive to repair (or more commonly are written off very easily).....and we will more pay more for this fact.

However, to add a balanced view and not appear to be 'anti EV' many new vehicles are just crazy expensive to repair. E.G., a new headlight unit for a run of the mill car (matrix unit) can easily be north of £3k.

So a light (car park 'tap') can easily result in a claim for £10k+

My experience is to shop around and get a feel for prices. Typically holding off until the last week and then talking to an agent will mean the increased premium will decrease considerably - whether it will beat the opposition is another matter, but it is somewhat disappointing that 'your' insurer, will immediately reduce the premium to in many cases at least match the opposition.

In short loyalty is penalised so call them and let them know!
