Rover P5 3.0ltr Coupe GHC 47D
Discussion
No idea about the actual car, but the commission number 805 etc indicates the 21st RHD UK-market manual transmission MK111 coupé, so a very early one. Almost certainly a 1965 production car (MK111 introduced Sept 1965) as they were up to ....225A by Feb '66.
Not sure where 'chassis no 7' comes from?
Colour wise, the split would originally have been 1 colour on the roof, other colour on the main body, ie not a 2-tone split on the lower half, if that's what it is, looking at the photo.

Thnx for the reply Tarquin; I saw your name on the P5 forum- stunning saloon you have - pics pls
The Coupe is in remarkable condition albeit it's been parked up for over 20yrs. Last taxed in Cardiff. I've found two pics on t'internet, one of which is by an artist and features a dead seagull lying on the road in front of the Rover - esoteric, bizarre or art, dependent upon your perspective I guess.
We expected the colour to be as you described, silver roof , body colour but it's actually navy roof and lower body with grey upper half. It did cross my mind that this combo was used by Lord Montague but perhaps no connection; the car could have been painted at the dealership (or indeed any period early in it's life) -two touch up pencils were in the boot; beyond the above we don't have anything else.
As I said it's in remarkable condition needing only lower wing fettling but nothing structural at all.
My taste has always been toward Jaguar but I'm not myopic to Armstrong Siddeley, Alvis Humber et al and the P5 sits within this radar. Looking at the car closely, the build quality is far superior to the Jag without it being over engineered, as for example the Silver Shadow is, so it piques my interest, albeit I'm not totally sold on it's styling, but it undeniably has presence.
"Ted" the owner - has had many, many classics and his immediate plan is just to put it back on the road , patina and all, which gets a 10/10 from me.
Any feedback appreciated.
Best.

I'm not the 'Tarquin' on the P5 forum, but I understand why you might have thought that
The two touch-up paints in the tool tray would almost certainly be the two original colours, assuming that they're the original ones. It's sometimes difficult to tell from photos on here but it's likely that the colours are Light Navy roof and Marine Grey main body, which was the only 1966 combination with a Navy coloured roof.
Steel Blue can sometimes look grey, but a Steel Blue body would have had a Charcoal roof.
If you're not aware, the P5 club forum is www.roverp5.proboards.com, which I presume that's the one you referred to and is a very good source of information.
