Schutz/ Dinitrol application

Hi folks.

I took the plunge and bought a Fulvia in Italy last week. It's in great shape but will be used year round when I get it here so want to spend some time protecting it before it gets wet and dirty.

I want to use schutz in the wheel arches to cover the beautiful but vulnerable paint, Dinitrol clear wax in the cavities/ doors/ engine bay/ inner wings and dark Dinitrol over the existing underbody coating and chassis parts.

I don't have a compressor and am wondering if I can successfully do this with aerosols? It's not a big car and would prefer not to buy a compressor if possible.

Aerosols are fine just put them in a bucket of hot water for 10 minutes before application.

As above - I Dinitroled my TR with aerosols 20 years ago and it’s still rust-free despite less than careful use.

Post pics of the Fulvia! I’ve been kicking around the idea of flogging the Quattro to get one. Or a Stag. Or a 944…

Fabulous car, always fancy one whenever seen around. Great tip about putting cans in hot water for 10mins, it increases the spray pressure massively. Make sure you shake them well too!

That looks lovely HBG , was it straightforward bringing it in from Italy?

I dinitroled my RRClassic with aerosols and it was nice and easy to do and use, I have some waxoyl now and its nowhere near as good.

I'll let you know! The car is still in Italy and will be shipped back. I wanted to drive it back but couldn't get insurance. I could borrow a Shogun and trailer but the cost of fuel, Channel crossings and time off work not to mention my lack of experience strapping a car down means it's about the same cost. Plus there's the import paperwork which HMRC, despite what their website says now won't let you do the paperwork yourself without an agent.

The risky bit occurs now when I have to make the rest of the payment yet don't have the car and won't for a couple of weeks.

I would use brushed on WAR for the arches. Also look at their other stuff.

I used the Dinitrol clear on my TR about five years ago it works great I did not want to cover up the underside stone chip yellow.

That looks very good.
Does dirt stick to it like, for instance, it might do to Waxoyl etc?

It dries after a couple of hours or so (depending on temperature) then that’s it dirt dust etc just wipes of with a wet cloth.

I have my Italian cars rustproofed at Alex Jupe who does mostly Alfas. All have survived long term with no rust coming through !

It’s quite messy protracted job given cars gets cleaned, needs proper drying and masking up and then the actual rustproofing - in the following advert, he mentions the actual dinitrol products he uses - give him a call and he will probably talk you through the products and process.

The car arrived and I'm getting the underseal materials together.

The question now is, will the use of oil based waxes like Dinitrol in the doors, sills and floor box sections that are 'in' the car make the car forever smell of solvents?

Most of the smell goes pretty quickly. You'll get the odd whiff for a while on a hot day but that's it.
