I'm in the process of stripping a car to make it ready for restoration, I have to confess that I have been feeling a bit sentimental about removing bits and bobs that have been undisturbed on the car which was hand built nearly sixty years ago.

Odd really, as generally speaking sentimentality is not one of my traits!

Why not replace them when you do the rebuild? That way you retain those characteristics.

That looks more like hand-bodged than hand-built. I’d not be sorry to fling that out and do yhe job properly.

That said, I have decided not to restore my Quattro. The paint is all scratched, it’s got various dents and dings, and couple of little rusty bits in the wheel arches. I had planned to do the whole glass-out back to metal respray thing but would now rather keep it orginal as poss. So I’m going to polish it up, and just repair the rust and stuff in little patches. Anything that’s left is patina.

The trick is to approach it as a project that will end in a car that the original builders would have liked to have produced, but due to time and money constraints were unable to achieve.
