Can anyone tell me whether the Renault 8 ever had rectangular headlamps? Also, I know that the Renault 10 did, but can anyone tell me when the Ten got them and whether it was a specific model?
Thanks
Bob

Renault 8, no rectangular lights as far as I know, however, some were fitted with four headlamps from, I think, late 1967.

Renault 10, rectangular lights from October 1967.

The 8 Gordinis had 4 headlamps if I remember correctly.

Thanks. So from you reply it seems ALL Tens had rectangular lights from 67. Yes 8s with four lights were 8Ss (when they weren't Gordinis). Thanks for your reply. Bob

That's what my reference book infers, rectangular headlights introduced together with restyled rear lamp cluster; it also states that it wasn't called the 10 until 1969, simply 1100 prior to that.

As you say, four headlamps on the 8 'S' , and correction to my earlier post, from Sept 1968. Known as R8 until Oct 1965, then just 8.

I'm pretty sure they were called Renault R10 here in NZ - certainly our 1967 NZ built one was registered and badged as such.

I learned to drive in one, fitted with cross-plies originally since the michelin radial tyres were quite hard to source at one time. That meant quite a bit of time was spent going sideways ;-) Fantastic brakes (4 wheel discs) meant it could be punted downhill at quite a rate of knots compared to similar aged cars, brake fade was just not an issue. A bag of stones or cement certainly helped the handling, as did radial tyres!

By the time it was moved on it had done well over 200 000 miles and was still fine mechanically.

The later 1300's did iirc but not the 1100 cc versions.
