Going through some of my Dad's pictures I found this of him, I'd guess in 1960 can anyone identify the car ?

Definitely a home-built body on something. Unless someone can read that badge I think we'll never know.

That would make sense he always liked a "Special"

I didn't realise they were what he started with though

Would help if we could get a better version of the image, really hard to make out details at the moment.

If those lamps came off the original car I am thinking something big like Lagonda etc.

I just enlarged the photo to get a closer look, but unfortunately this distorted the image and the badge letters were unreadable. However I agree that there are about letters.

What did become apparent was that the chromed and shaped top of the radiator shell was a separate entity and held those large headlamps. The shell containing the radiator is behind that chromed "architecture". The radiator seems to be mesh and slightly v-shaped. Could it be a Railton?

I think you could be right with Railton.
I was going to say something like an Alvis 12/50, but that's well 'spotted' that shaped part holding the much larger headlamps.
Plus the wipers sit sort of normally at the foot of the windscreen. Whereas many (like the Alvis) had wipers and motor at the top of the windscreen.

Here's a (slightly) enhanced version of the image. The shape of the badge put me in mind of an old Morris van I saw on Bangers and Cash.

In case it's any use, here's a slightly further enhanced image (using Topaz Gigapixel AI)

I did the same, through Rimini, but still couldn't read the badge...

Perhaps the OP could upload a higher-res photo that would potentially help.
