What car is this?
Discussion
My dad had a 1.3 Marina coupe.
Hateful thing. Slow. Dreadful gearbox. Handled like a pig. And hideous too look at in Harvest Gold with black plastic seats
Also I found out, the hard way, that a Marina didn’t like ending up on its roof!!!
Structural strength wasn’t good.
On the ‘plus’ side he bought a 1.8TC with the insurance payout.
A slightly better car.

I got my doubts being a Marina
Could be an Australian or similar type?
The Grille doesn't look like a Marina
The rake of the windscren not the same
Rear quarter panel can't see the small air vent ? alongside window
Rear end angle doesn't look the same
Wheels don't look quite right look too big
I maybe wrong but my dad had 3 Marinas over the years and something don't look right

It looks fairly convincing to me. Could be an Australian or similar type?

Definitely a Marina coupe. Grille, headlights are correct as is the curvature of the roof and, notwithstanding the blurred image, the wheel trims look right too.
Just to balance opinions a bit, my grandmother had a ‘73 1800 saloon in hearing aid beige. Owned it from new for 7 years and while it didn’t exactly set your heart racing, it did what was required of it and was actually pretty reliable. Its B-series engine was arguably its best bit - not fast, but enough torque to amble around Dorset b-roads with little effort. I doubt the equivalent Mk3 Cortina would have been any more exhilarating!

A fair assessment in my view, though I think you might have been kind!Hateful thing. Slow. Dreadful gearbox. Handled like a pig. And hideous too look at in Harvest Gold with black plastic seats

(I had a 1.3 coupe as a stopgap car)

Opel reckord coupe?
Looks too big for a marina and the grill not really marina like and the wheels and hubcaps too big.
Proportions would be more like a Kadett than a Rekord but the roof line is wrong for both and they both had rectangular headlamp bezels/lights. The image is distorted which makes the front wheels look bigger than they are. Look at the proportions of the 2 guys in the pic - I doubt their legs were that long in relation to their bodies!Looks too big for a marina and the grill not really marina like and the wheels and hubcaps too big.
Definitely a Marina IMO.

Yup, Marina Coupe, I had a 1.3 Saloon in Sandglow.
Ha! I passed my test in one of those (same colour, too) in 1985. The examiner was slightly miffed when the rattle can of underseal flew off the back seat during the emergency stop, but I clearly impressed him enough that he passed me anyway. The very next day I sold it and upgraded to a 1.8 for more performance. The 1.3 definitely handled better (although "handling" is used in its loosest sense) because the 1.8 was heavier and thus understeered more. Until it oversteered.Fun fact: the pre-facelift Marina was a far safer car for a teenager than the later ones, whose radio was angled towards the passenger. Ask me how I know...
Oh, and for those doubting the identity of the car in the OP's pic: it's definitely a Marina.
