Different, & don’t know how rare they are...
They were only £318 dearer than a standard A40 at the time.
(£500 v £818...equal to approx £20K v £33K today)

They were dreadful when they were new, and age has not changed a thing. Some people believe that rarity means they are worth ridiculous money, but that is very often not the case and is true in this instance.

Indeed - despite being comparatively common as muck i'd have an A40 Farina instead paperbag

Looks pretty to me, albeit slow and expensive. What's wrong with it compared with other cars of its period?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! But you are correct, slow, expensive, heavy and handled like a dog. An acquaintance had one back in the 60's and confirms my thoughts back in the day.

Wouldn't be my choice at that price either but then neither would a Ford Escort. I can sort of see the appeal of both though. I suppose it takes all sorts.

If ever there was a car undeserving of being called "Sport", surely this is it!

One was driven round the world when they were current! I think by a chap called Alan Hess who also drove the A90 Atlantic round Indianapolis for 10000 miles taking all sorts of records. Neither of these Austin sponsored events did much for the sales of either car! Must have been fun though.
The A40 sports did have twin carburettors though and was the body etc was built by Jensen …who must have had a hand in the styling as it looks like the Inteceptor of the day looked at through the wrong end of a telescope 😀

Yes, both styled by Jensen's Chief of Body Design, Eric Neale. "A Jensen and an Austin from the same stable."
