A question for the experts - came from a local Alderley FB page with the blurb:

'Still trying to find out the manufacturers of these fine cars.

A friend has suggested the following possibilities. Do you have any friends with an encyclopaedic knowledge of cars? Please let me know.

The cars in the photograph would all seem to date from around the 1906/07 period, perhaps a little later. The first car in the line-up would appear to be a Hotchkiss. I can’t help with a specific model but the radiator and bonnet are quite distinctive. Hotchkiss was a French marque, originally an arms manufacturer that made the transition to motor vehicles.

The car behind is a little trickier. There was an identical or near identical style of radiator that was used by a number of manufacturers at this time and the second car in the line is displaying this. I can’t be certain but I think it may be a Star, built in Wolverhampton. I’m afraid I can’t see enough of the third car to be able to come up with a suggestion but there is a hint of a dash board radiator on the fourth car which leads me to suggest that it could be a Renault, although some other manufacturers also used this style of radiator so CGV, Charon etc are also possibilities'

Any stabs in the dark?
