Modified Anglia? Talk to me!
Discussion
Hi,
I have a long standing itch to scratch to try a modified Anglia.
For the money this looks (to my amateur eye) like the sort of thing that would fit the bill
https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1526837
I have previously owned a number of classics and enjoy a bit of tinkering and back road frolics!
Is it a case of rose tinted glasses or are they cracking fun?
Cheers!

I like that except for the interior.
...with a nice period Springalex steering wheel, a pod tacho, and a set of replica Contour seats it would look ace
I agree, and with those period mods as well to make it more in keeping with the 60's period... I'd also loose the Mk.2 RS alloys for a set of pukka Lotus-Cortina steelies, or real Minilites....with a nice period Springalex steering wheel, a pod tacho, and a set of replica Contour seats it would look ace
They’re great fun. Simple to work on, good parts and mods availability and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
I’ve had a few over the years, including a Carlos Fandango-style 1600GT crossflow engined one, and a much faster version (1760 twin cam, 2000E ‘box, turreted, seam welded, caged etc). Happy days

I've seen a few of them in recent years with various engine transplants. One had a Ford Zetec running throttle bodies and looked really good!
The Lotus TC would be fun, but an engine rebuild would be much more expensive than a Ford Crossflow!
Only in relation to the cylinder head, the rest is essentially the same engine. The Lotus TC would be fun, but an engine rebuild would be much more expensive than a Ford Crossflow!
I've just rebuilt a LTC and I managed it for around £1500 all in - doing the build myself but using a couple of very good old school machinists. The bottom end didn't need pistons fortunately, just rings and a hone and I got away with a polish and new shells on the crank.
Even the head came in at just under a grand - the parts are quite dear, new bronze guides, springs, shims, seats, cam bearings and valves came in at just over £600 and my old boy machinist did everything else for £380 cash.
