Silverstone Auctions sale today
Discussion
I dipped in and out. Silverstone charge 15% buyers' fees (inc. VAT) and charge 5% to the sellers so some serious money to be made, IF they sell.
I noticed a clutch of Series 1 Land Rovers all failed to sell (lots 642 - 644), guide prices of £40k + so perhaps they're out of favour now. Some old Fords went for the usual high prices Many other cars failed to sell though. Although an EVO IV Tommi Makinen Edition (rarer one in red) went for £110k with the fees To the Middle East I think he said.

One that surprised me a bit was the 2010 BMW 535d Tourer with a guide price of £15k - £20k. Very few bids and sold for £11,500 on the hammer (+ fees). Perhapd a bit too modern for this auction, or maybe the 'mods' put people, off or it wasn't so good close up:

Only 90 road cars ?...out of 200 made .^^^
I know Ford broke some immediately after homologation numbers had been made but they can't have used 100 or so for competition .
Rumour (or Urban Myth) has it they didn’t make 200, one batch of cars were inspected at Borehamwood, a second batch the next day at Reliant, Tamworth. The cars were the same, shipped up overnight.I know Ford broke some immediately after homologation numbers had been made but they can't have used 100 or so for competition .

Cheers - I had just Boreham initially and then thought hang on a minute, which one was it, promptly ignored first instincts and messed it up! It's Boreham by the way , Borehamwood is somewhere else .

Anyone else glued to it?
No surprise in the current climate that everything's going " under the estimate"..
I must have watched a different auction No surprise in the current climate that everything's going " under the estimate"..

If you look at the saleroom catalogue listings, the original guide price remains displayed. If there is no 'last bid' quoted, it is because the lot was passed, i.e. too far below guide to take a provisional bid. In fact, Silverstone seem loathe to bother with provisional bids. This is page 4 covering lots 602 - 661:

I had a good look round the auction cars and thought the standard was generally quite decent with an unusual amount of ultra low-mileage entries.
Like most auctions there were highs, lows and some on the money. Several of the cars that I found interesting went for far more than I expected.
I was tempted by the Rover Vitesse but at £17k and needing a repaint I thought it went for strong money.
The various E-Types fetched more or less what I would have expected and the XJ Coupe at £52k was again expensive IMHO. The other XJ coupe requiring full restoration at £12k was perhaps £12k too expensive (I've been down that route.)
£62k for a transit van, admittedly a very nice one ?
The unregistered XJS at £131k was also a surprise, to me at least. To put it in service would undoubtedly need a substantial expenditure and once on the road it would just be a low mileage car with half that value. Gone into a collection perhaps.
I don't know much about fast Fords, but the prices seemed strong enough.
I did notice a lot of sold stickers on one or two of the trade stands, particularly those selling modern classics.
Overall a very enjoyable show and good to see a decent standard of cars up for sale.
