Evening all, I’m looking at buying an NI classic car and have a query RE the reg. it’s been changed to a standard mainland format already, P***GHG instead on IHZ****, which is great and was done a few years back. My question…if I where to put my private plate on the car now, if I sold the care in the future and put my plate on retention, which plate would return to the car? The P reg or original IHZ

I don't know for sure, but I would be very surprised if it wasn't the P plate. I can't see DVLA / whatever they're called this week putting it back on a NI plate that could be seen as adding value, when they don't have to because a mainland plate has already been allocated.

Happy to be proved wrong, mind.

The UK P-reg.

I did the same with a Range Rover and it reverted to the non-NI plate.

Thanks. Was it the exact plate they put back on the car?

Just to add some confusion, I bought a car a couple of years ago, it had a UK private plate on it but the seller wanted it back. When I got it, it came with an NI plate on it (RXI ****)which w as a private plate it had had in a previous life, along with a couple of other UK registrations...

Yes, same plate.
