Ringing around for quotes on the El Camino this week, and I gave Lancaster a shout.

The service itself was unremarkable, usual insurance type nonsense, but the guys I spoke to were hilarious. Proper urban youth types, very informal and friendly.

Not exactly confidence inspiring, especially when one referred to my car as a Chevy Clamarino, but it made for a refreshing diversion in the tedious process of going through the same details over and over.

Anyone else used them? I used to work for their parent company, it seems things have changed somewhat in the last 15 years.

Over 22 years' ownership they probably insured my SAAB for at least 12 years, interspersed with whichever competitors were cheaper on the comparison sites that year (often one of their other aliases).

Never had a problem with them, always been decent to deal with and good value. Never had to make a claim, mind.

On the positive side I insured a TVR with them a few years back and received efficient service from them at a competitive price.

However, over the years, there have been many grumbles (not only on PH) regarding their hefty charges for cancellation or changes to a policy.

TBF may not be an issue these days but worth checking out.

I used Lancaster for three years for my TR6 but last year the renewal was stupid more expensive so I went with Adrian Flux who were so much cheaper. I had my renewal last week from a AF which surprisingly its slightly cheaper. I have full Breakdown cover, Europe included also Agreed Value.

I insured my Merc R129 with Lancaster, fast efficient service, very competitive agreed value premium, so I agreed and paid in full.
Then I received an email saying they would not give me the no claims bonus quoted, and wanted an extra £75. They would not accept the info I gave them about previous insurers.
I have our daily drivers insured with LV= Claim free, but that doesn’t count. My last classic insurer did not give discount on a classic policy, so that don’t count.
The last time I had a claim on my classic was in 2009 and that was a non fault, but that doesn’t count.
Lancaster says no claim bonus and claim free driving are two different things.

I recently had my renewal for my 1969 series 2a. Think it came in about £110 pa.

Very reasonable I thought and paid it.

Until my wife came home (who has worked in insurance all her life) and spotted that the “administration” costs levied by Lancaster were nearly 80% of the total.

One very pointed discussion with Lancaster later citing various parts of the regulatory guidance and the “admin” costs were reduced to a more reasonable proportion of the total.

Cool starry Bra and all that, I know smile

But hopefully of use to any of due to renew shortly…

Cheers all

I've been with Footman James for eight years and they have always been very competitive and easy to deal with. Tbh, I cannot be arsed ringing around to save a few quid.
