Hi all,
I have noticed that some Dealers seem to be posting 'more' adverts where they are putting POA?
I must admit I find this VERY annoying and wastes everyone's time i.e., them and me!!
For example, I see a car I have been searching for but it is advertised POA.
Ring ring... ME - "Hi I am calling about the XXX XXXX you have for sale, can we cut to the chase how much is it please, as the price will/will not dicate if I take this forward....and I won't then waste your time?"
DEALER - "oh yes that is a lovely car (5 minutes then lapses whilst they talk about what I have just read in the advert....)"
ME - "yes, I can see/know that, I have read your advert....but how much is it, as the price either includes/excludes me, as I am sure you can understand?"
DEALER - "this is genuinely one of the nicest one of these we have had for a while and....blah blah"
ME - "and......"
DEALER - "I will need to talk to the MD, as he brought this in (exclusively, from a friend/client) and the restoration cost more than we are asking for it..."
ME - "any clue?"
DEALER - "I am sure you can appreciate, to restore one to this level.....blah blah ME - "I think I will leave it......(slowly sliding off the chair...and losing the will...)

I must have been living in a parallel universe; I've always understood the term POA to be used when the vendor was so embarrassed by their extremely low selling price that they didn't want to put potential buyers off by advertising the low price because people would assume that the car was rubbish.
Personally, I'd much rather see a car advertised at a reassuringly-expensive price, then it's bound to be a good one

One of my bugbears is this, POA just put the price, i seen no reason why not to put a price.
The whole machine tool business is like it, i once emailed the editor of a machinery tool magazine saying what it the point in letting dealers advertising machines with no prices, while he aggreged with me he said it it out of his hands.

Years ago I was told another reason for not advertising prices which is based on taking a car in part exchange. If you can agree the price to change. against a POA it doesn't reveal/imply what was paid for the part exchange car.
Otherwise there is no point in the time-wasting process that follows such adverts.

While I understand and agree with much of the rage about this, I would argue that a bunch of commercially aware dealers obviously find enough benefit to keep doing it. I guess it weeds out people like me (and others on here) that love looking at cars for sale but have no intention of buying.
