Hello

How do I find the original list price of a 1984 Series 3 Jaguar Sovereign 4.2?

I am considering getting one of these, and it may be more cost effective to run through my Ltd. Co as a company car. Depending on the list price, the BIK could be balanced by having the running costs in the company.

Does anyone know where to look - I've done various internet searches but just keep getting links to value, not original list price.

Any help much appreciated.

When I wanted a value, I bought a copy of Motor magazine for the appropriate date ( from eBay)

You probably already know this but for anyone else reading, if a car is older than 15 years old and its value is greater than £15k, the market value is used instead of the list price for BIK calculations.

Thanks LeighW. Yes I was aware of that, in this case the car I'm looking at (now bought!) is £12K. I've done the maths with the list price and there's virtually nothing in it, so I've decided to own the car personally.

I was getting carried away with the idea of saving the VAT and then getting tax relief on running costs! Not surprisingly HMRC don't make it so easy!

Thanks again.

I’m not sure I would call over two years average wages at the time “good value” hehe saying that at 117 weeks average salary it’s the equivalent of about £74000 today so pretty much what a modern XJ sold for before they discontinued recently.

I think you'll struggle to find the original list price of a 1984 Jag, in Autocar's from 1955-1975 silly

A 1984 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign sounds like a great idea. I remember travelling in many including the 5.3 version in the 1980’s.

Be sure to post some pictures when you’ve finally purchased.

Car was delivered on Friday. Lovely day yesterday so took it to a local village garden which was open to visitors. Two guys manning the car park both said "lovely car".

Unfortunately there's some oil on the drive so I obviously have an oil leak which needs investigating! In other respects the car runs really well, good oil pressure, stable temperature, pulls smoothly and firmly (I haven't gone above 60 yet). All electrics apart from the aerial work.

My plan is to potter about for a few weeks getting to know the car, then get it booked in for a good service (and to look into that oil leak).

Congratulations. That is absolutely gorgeous. The exact spec and colour of my Dad's last Jag (although his was an 86 C plate)

Thank you! I'm really pleased with it.

Bodywork & interior very clean but it would benefit from a mechanical once-over, which I'll organise sooner rather than later.

What a stunning car, looking at it it's hard to believe it's getting on for 40 years old.

Is that Antelope metallic?
