Wondering if anyone has replaced the zipper on their carcoon and specifically how you managed to remove the old zips and attach the new ones? Have had mine for 7 years and it was becoming trickier to close it up properly without the zipper missing bits - called carcoon yesterday and to their credit sent me out a couple of replacements free of charge which arrived 1st class this morning. Great service but I’m not sure if I need to undo some of the stitching to replace them and don’t want to damage the carcoon which has been very reliable up till now…

Yes, the zips are sewn in. It'll be an absolute 'mare trying to replace them. You need someone with an industrial sewing machine and the requisite skills.

I would suggest finding a company that does boating trim work. They are used to this scale of work

Ah ok, thanks all. Was hoping there might be a way of doing it myself but sounds unlikely from the replies so far.

Just had mine replaced.
Ring Joyce at Carcoon - she is a very nice lady and very helpful.
Cost was very reasonable.
They will also change the filters for you as well.

Sent 4 emails no reply, called them no answer.

Gave up and dropped mine off at a company in Derby

Sadly I've had a similar disappointing response from Carcoon when the zip failed on mine.

Called twice and the "nice lady" promised to send a replacement zip carriage thingy on both occasions but nothing arrived.

Not convinced that would solve it anyway as both the current carriage thingy's have the same problem (the zip comes apart behind the carriage.

Thanks for suggestions of boat/caravan awning repairers - think I'll try them and try to get a more robust zip fitted.

The standard one seems to have quite fine teeth and maybe something like on a heavy jacket would be better?

Anyone used somewhere in the Southeast?

Since my post i have had mine done by Pete at > http://www.robertsbespokecanvas.co.uk/

He is in Derby and Not Wolverhampton as per the website.

Did a great job, cost was £180 for me, the zip fitted looks a lot more heavy duty than the original one.

Hope this helps

Thanks - Will follow up with them as haven’t had much luck with anyone else I’ve asked

It's worth spraying zips with silicone spray a couple of times a year to keep them smooth running. Also great on window channels, you may find lazy electric windows speed up.

This has just happened to mine too, two zipper sides come apart. Is the only realistic fix spending £180 (probably more by now)? Such an Achilles heel in the design

Silicone spray on a cloth then rubbed onto the zipper seems to have fixed mine. Definitely worth trying before sending it away to have the zipper replaced.
