Beforehand, I might have quietly sniggered at one of these. But I drove one recently and thought it was really cool.

Obviously you don't turn corners fast and the acceleration from the 1100cc engine is quite unlike anything from any modern car, but with the roof down it feels so different to todays cars; makes an SLK or 3-series cabriolet seem like a disgustingly tasteless, unoriginal and uninspiring way of going topless! Also the ride was pretty good and the engine amazingly smooth and quiet. I guess that's what you get with simplicity.

Or maybe it's just so old that it's cool now?

Always liked them since my dad had a vitesse between '67 and '69. my first real memory of cars.

I am putting a GT6 back together at the moment, spent the afternoon welding a patch in the rear valance. simple car to work on especialy if the body is taken off the chassis.

I had a Mk1 Vitesse 2.0 convertible as my only wheels for a few years. It wasn't a particularly sound example, but it was fun to drive if you didn't try to pretend it was fast.

Great value classic if you can keep on top of the rust issues - Heralds are just that little bit too slow though, in my opinion.

Some great cars out there and for not a lot of cash. Why people spend loads of cash on bling to make their car 'stand out' from the crowd when Heralds and the like can be had is a mystery to me. Maybe I'm just an old bloke.
