Must be the best Example|http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18303&item=4551854659

But £8K reserve not met? Its a pretty famous example I know, guess if i had the garage space and a large car collection I guess I'd buy this one with a spot of loose change! :hehe:.... its only a couple of months depreciation on a Lambo, Bentley or top end Porsche!

Actually what is the car of the eighties? I saw a programme about eighties icons a while ago and they suggested the 911 as the automotive statement of that decade, which it probably would be from a layman's perspective. I would have said the Quattro, or the Mk1 GTi.

But most people drove Escorts.

I'd have said the GTI as well. It was seen as inspiring all the other hot hatches, including the vile Ford offerings, even though Ford had a history of producing hot versions of previous Escorts.

The Quattro was indeed iconic, but beyond the limits of realism for many people, whereas a GTI was not.

I think the 80s were not particularly good for the 911. Sure a lot of them were sold, but they were sold to the red braces brigade who bought them to show off, so they got a reputation as a tosser's car. They also produced some of the more unfortunate styling variations.

Among minor players I'd include M series BMWs and the TVR wedges.
