Well it looks like I have just purchased a 1974 gt6 in the form of a jigsaw puzzle.
Anybody have experience of rebuilding triumphs? anybody got tips for good suppliers, preferably local to north hampshire?
Any good forums for tips and advice?
anything else I should know?

Well you seem to have inadvertantly mentioned one of them anyway .... Jigsaw

www.jigsawracingservices.co.uk/

Their name seems to come up a fair bit. Not overly close to you as their in Northamptonshire not North Hampshire but at least you could pick their brains.

Don't think you can cut corners on the body because there's a chassis. The body is nevertheless structural on the GT6 and Spitfire.

The body is fine, just not on the chasis. Not quite sure why it was taken apart as there seems little wrong with it except a small hole in the footwell. even the paint is nice enough to live with. Its already had 1000's spent on it, but it never got finished. I do understand about these cars having structural bodies.

I've rebuilt two GT6's from the ground up. Love the cars (though I'm a mk2 man myself )

Rimmer Brothers for parts, plus plenty of other places. You can pretty much just about get everything for them.

Join the TSSC (Triumph Sports Six Club) ... NOW ! Invaluable source of information, advertisers etc, and a jolly good club to boot.

Relatively easy car to rebuild. The biggest nightmare you will have is aligning the doors, bonnet and body all together to get decent panel gaps. I've spent many many hours on this, and on the last mk2 I did I ended up reskinning both doors 3 times in the end, until I was happy with the gaps.

Whilst the body is off, check the chassis for crash damage and alignment (you can do it yourself with a tape measure and a flat bit of concrete). In accidents they have a habit of twisting.

Any specific questions ?

p.s. some info on my site www.fugazi.co.uk though it's fairly generic GT6 info (not just restoration stuff)

p.p.s. the club sells a big book "Spitfire and GT6 Guide to Originality" or something. Petrolhead geekfest, it's full of lots and lots pics of obscure parts of each model, and what it should look like / where bits go.

p.p.p.s. buy a parts manual. something else which is invaluable if you have lots of boxes of bits ....
